The difference between SEM and PPC lies in their scope and approach. SEM or Search Engine Marketing is a broad term that includes all paid and organic strategies for increasing visibility on search engines. PPC is a type of SEM that focuses solely on paid ads. You bid on keywords with PPC and you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. SEM can also involve SEO which is focused on organic traffic. All PPC is part of SEM but not all SEM is PPC. PPC is one of the paid components of SEM.
