Marketing often has a negative connotation due to the fact that people connect it with some level of deceit, coercion, or even annoyance. We have reached a stage where an onslaught of advertisements, particularly the internet ones, have become too much of a factor and some which are negative in nature, such as the use of false superiority or extreme persuasion, have made people cynical.

Marketing in the ethical and customer oriented sense means knowing what a customer wants or needs and providing them with the proper service. It focus on solving the problem and creating a relationship. The usually negative connotation is due to a small number of companies that only care about the immediate profits. They choose deceit nstead of investing on the reputation of the company which will bear fruit in the future.
