Selling products is not the same as marketing because it entails the process of interaction with customers to figure out their challenges and offer appropriate solutions. Selling is a small stage within the broader process of using marketing concepts. Marketing is applied only after the necessary research is done. It entails, but not exclusively, strategic and operational planning, market segmentation, advertising, and synthesis and differentiation of the product in the given market.

Marketing generates demand, informs the target audience, and builds their confidence, making it easier to sell products. It explains how one needs to reach out to people rather than just selling the products to them.
